We’re happy that you are thinking about visiting us! We know the first visit can be a little scary. Coming to church was scary for each one of us at one time, too. That’s okay. Let us take a second to walk you through it.

We’re located on the corner of 8th and Eddy Streets. There are spaces near the church or on the street. As you enter the big wooden doors under the bell tower we will greet you with a smile. Our worship area is to the left and restrooms are to the right. When you’re ready to enter the worship area we have ushers who will hand you a guide to our service and answer any questions you might have.

As you enter the worship area, you will see that plenty of seating. Sit anywhere you feel comfortable. You will hear organ and piano music. You will see people getting their hearts ready for worship.

Here is a good thing to remember: Every church has its own style of worship. We think you’ll enjoy the services at St. John’s, but as in any church, you should expect it to take a couple of Sundays to become accustomed to our way of praising God and proclaiming what he has done. We follow an order to worship that keeps us focused on the Good News of God’s Word. It’s all printed out for you in the service folder. During worship we will speak some things. We will sing some songs. We will listen to readings. One of our pastors will give an explanation about one of the readings (we call it a sermon, but it’s far from “preaching.” They work hard to make sure the messages are interesting and apply to our everyday lives). There will be an offering (please don’t feel obligated to give). We leave with the blessing of God. As worship ends you may leave when you’re ready. And, if you’d like you are welcome to stay for treats and coffee.

We promise to do everything we can to make your visit a meaningful one. If you have any questions, please ask us. We’re expecting them! We can’t wait to meet you!
If you would like to grow beyond Sunday, here are some ways you can take the next step:
  • Sign up to get information about the next Starting Point session. Starting Point is a pastor-led group that approaches topics of faith and church ministry in a way that addresses the questions that all adults should be asking. New sessions usually begin in January, March, June, August, and October.
  • Set up a time to meet with a pastor. They would love to get to know you and answer any questions you may have.
